There Will Be No Re-Opening in the U.S. This Summer
A real 2nd wave of Covid-19 is due this autumn, but for clarity’s sake let’s just call this the 2nd wave. As of Wednesday, the nation’s seven-day average of daily new Covid-19 cases was 31,172.
This number has increased more than 34% compared with a week ago, according to the analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Today there’s over 40,000 new cases again in the U.S. This will only increase in the days and weeks ahead.
If you make simulations of this, it means that in July 2020 America will have a resurgence of Covid-19 that will be very difficult to contain. This is because it’s not just the sunbelt states as reported earlier. Hospitalization rates are up in 16 states.
According to CNBC, data from Johns Hopkins indicates 12 states hit record highs in daily new cases on Wednesday based on seven-day averages. This is not a question of just isolating certain hot areas. This means opening the economy up recently was a mistake.
We have to be realistic, ignoring Covid-19 like millions of young people in the U.S. have been doing will hurt the economy more. Hospitalizations from Covid-19 are also rising in 16 states as of Wednesday, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by the Covid Tracking Project.
While New York was bad in the 1st wave, in the 2nd wave Houston, Phoenix and Austin, among other cities, could all be seriously impacted. Cases are growing by 5% or more in 31 states across the U.S., including Arizona, Florida, Texas and California. It’s happening also because the U.S. has suppressed the true gravity of the situation. Real figures are likely 10 times higher says the CDC.
Testing in America has failed. It’s impossible to now track or control. The true number of Americans who’ve been infected with COVID-19 may top 20 million, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That means Covid-19 could have already impacted 5-8 percent of the American population. That’s not misinformation, but it is possible.
Coronavirus in some cases can also cause diabetes. This is not something you want to catch, since there’s still a lot we don’t know about it. It’s also somewhat airborne so social distancing does not work if you are singing.
You can’t expect to have group gatherings or go back to life as usual, or visit pubs and things like that. It’s just not responsible behavior. What if Americans had worn masks like in some Asian countries? We wouldn’t even be having a second wave at all. Do as Taiwan, guys.
Covid-19 can cause blood clots and even result in brain damage. We are just learning about our immune response to covid-19 and antibodies don’t seem to last much past a few months. Some of us will get Covid-19 more than once. America, Brazil, India, Russia and Beijing China still have a major problem, with Germany likely also facing the threat of a 2nd wave.
What’s important to realize here is that there should be no re-opening of states. The politicization of mask wearing in the U.S. is the worst possible thing that could have happened for our public health emergency. Donald Trump approval is plummeting.
The greater the public health emergency, the worse for unemployment, the economy and how deep (and long lasting) the economic depression and subsequent recovery will be. The data says it will take years, so why would we not have the patience to wait a few more months?
The California Department of Public Health reported its second straight record jump in coronavirus cases on Wednesday, adding 7,149 new cases. The previous highest spike in daily new cases was 5,019, reported on Tuesday by the state’s department of health.
With California, Texas and Florida all in trouble, these are some of our most populated states. We have to realize what this means for the next two weeks. Cases will rise, hospitalizations will rise and we will be overwhelmed in July, 2020 yet again.
The only way to stunt it is to shut the country back down. However that’s not the country we live in. July 4th celebrations will continue to spread it. People will be less careful due to the mental health sacrifices they have made in previous months.
It’s only normal for America. This will only make things worse. Europe will ban flights from the U.S. This “2nd wave” of the U.S. will be worse than in April, because our President doesn’t support another shutdown.
Worse then the initial outbreak? How can that be? Just wait for July and you will see. You think you have seen social unrest and fear? You don’t even wear masks. There’s no national policy that’s responsible for the economy, given the risks. There’s no mandatory rule yet to wear masks inside.
What a circus show, where democracy doesn’t even listen to science. A growing body of research suggests that face masks prevent coronavirus transmission.
Let’s put re-opening on pause. Let’s realize it’s the only thing left to do. The Great Shutdown of 2020 isn’t over yet. To date, more than 2.38 million coronavirus cases have been reported in the U.S. while at least 121,979 deaths have been reported as of June 24th, 2020.
We know the real numbers of actual cases are far higher. This means the attack rate will overwhelm hospitals in some locations before the 3rd wave in the autumn.
In July alone we could see 50,000 more deaths. Some will argue that human life isn’t worth another shutdown or delaying opening up the economy again.
